Applications of Biotechnology - Medicine

Biotechnology - Biotechnology application in medicine

Modern biotechnology hass being used in many areas of medicine from making vaccines and
various important areas. Biotechnology also used for drugs to determining genetic origins of
disease, producing organs for xenotransplant and developing nanomedical diagnostic methods.
Biotechnology has been in existance for thousands of years, originating in food production, but when was the first biotechnological application in medicine? The revolution began with the advent of biologically-produced antibiotics and the discovery of penicillin.

Biotechnology is often considered synonymous with the biomedical research, but there are many other industries which take advantage of modern developments in biotech methods and new techniques for studying, cloning and altering genes. Oral vaccines have been in the works for many years as a possible solution to the spread of disease in underdeveloped countries, where costs are prohibitive to widespread vaccination. Genetically engineered crops, usually fruits or vegetables, designed to carry antigenic proteins from infectious pathogens.
